The mean works well for continuous, numerical data (e.g., height, weight) but is vulnerable to outliers. The median is more robust, making it ideal for skewed data or datasets with extreme values. The mode shines with categorical data (e.g., colors, product preferences).

Across fields, these measures serve distinct purposes: in economics, the mean income reflects population well-being; in psychology, the median avoids outlier bias in test scores; in marketing, the mode identifies the most popular product or service.
